What is Scalar? The Idea Behind Blushield

A plain-English look at a sometimes complex word

“Scalar” is one of those words that can sound either fascinating or baffling, depending on where you first hear it. We use it to describe the field Blushield devices produce, so it’s worth explaining what people mean by it, where the idea comes from, and where the science currently stands.

What does scalar mean in physics?

In maths and physics, a scalar is simply a quantity that has size but no direction, such as temperature, mass or energy. A vector has both, such as wind speed in a particular direction. A “scalar field” in mainstream physics is a value spread across space, like the temperature at every point in a room. Physicists use scalar fields routinely. The Higgs field is a famous example.

What are scalar energy and scalar waves?

In the alternative-energy world, “scalar energy” or “scalar waves” usually means something more specific: a subtle form of energy or “information field” that is said to travel differently from ordinary radio waves, pass through physical objects, and interact with living systems. People also use related terms such as longitudinal waves, standing waves, Tesla waves and radiant energy.

The history of scalar energy: Maxwell, Tesla and beyond

James Clerk Maxwell (1860s). Maxwell’s equations unified electricity and magnetism and underpin modern physics. Scalar proponents point to elements of his original formulation that were later simplified by Heaviside and others, and argue that something was lost in the process.

Nikola Tesla (late 1800s to early 1900s). Tesla experimented with high-voltage, rapidly switching currents, wireless energy transmission, and what he called non-Hertzian or radiant phenomena. Many in the scalar community see his work as an early exploration of these effects. Some older Blushield models carried “Tesla” in their series name as a tribute. Blushield has no connection with Tesla, Inc.

Later researchers and writers. The idea was developed through the 20th century by a range of independent researchers and authors. Today it’s used across the wellness industry, sometimes loosely. Not every product that uses the word “scalar” works the same way.

How Blushield uses scalar technology

Every Blushield device contains:

  • a microprocessor programmed with a layered algorithm of waveforms based on natural frequency patterns, and

  • an LED light source driven by that microprocessor.

The combination of the programmed frequencies and the light produces a field that “carries” the frequency pattern. We describe this field as scalar. Because the devices are powered, by mains or battery, the field is strong enough to stand out among the many wireless signals in a modern home. Blushield’s engineers have developed the technology over decades, building on Tesla’s and others’ work with scalar fields.

Coherent vs incoherent signals: why the pattern matters

Coherence is central to how Blushield works. Natural signals, such as the Earth’s rhythms, have organised, harmonious patterns. Many human-made wireless signals are pulsed, abrupt and chaotic. We describe them as incoherent. Blushield’s field is designed to be coherent and nature-inspired.

Sympathetic resonance: how Blushield works

Blushield works on the principle of sympathetic resonance: a system tends to respond to a strong, compatible frequency nearby. Strike one tuning fork and a matching fork across the room will start to hum.

Think of a radio. When one station comes through loud and clear, the radio locks onto it rather than the static. Given Blushield’s stronger, more coherent field, the body tunes in to that signal rather than reacting to the background noise.

Why Blushield’s signal keeps changing

Our bodies are good at adapting to repetitive stimuli. Think of how you stop noticing a ticking clock. Blushield’s output is deliberately complex and ever-changing, and each device pauses its field briefly about every 30 seconds, visible as a change in the indicator light. This keeps the field “fresh”, so the body continues to respond to it over years of use.

Active vs passive scalar products: what’s the difference?

Many products claiming to work with “scalar energy” are passive: stickers, pendants, stones or shapes with no power source. A passive object can’t generate a field of its own, so its influence is limited. Blushield devices are active. They use power to produce their field continuously.

Scalar energy FAQs

Can an EMF meter detect scalar energy?

No. Standard RF and gauss meters measure conventional electromagnetic fields. Blushield’s field isn’t detectable that way, and the device doesn’t add RF signals, so a meter won’t show a change. That’s why we study Blushield by looking at how people respond.

Is scalar energy real, or just a marketing word?

This is physics, not marketing. In Blushield’s case, it describes a specific, powered technology that has been studied in a published pilot study, and you can judge that evidence for yourself.

Are all scalar energy products the same?

No. Products labelled “scalar” range from stones and pendants to powered devices, and they work in very different ways. Blushield is powered, and it produces a complex, continuously changing pattern.

Is scalar energy safe?

Blushield devices contain no transmitter and don’t emit magnetic or RF fields of their own. In the 2024 pilot study, no device-related adverse events were reported over 12 weeks. As with any product, if you have specific health concerns or a medical implant, check with your health professional or the implant manufacturer first.

Does scalar energy heal?

We don’t claim it does. Blushield is a wellness product designed to support a more balanced feel in connected environments. It isn’t intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Is Blushield right for you?

You don’t need to resolve debates about physics to decide whether Blushield is for you. What matters is how people respond, which is why we focus on studying living things rather than meter readings. The most rigorous evidence so far is this published peer reviewed study.
